What Strata collects

A dig needs one thing: the coordinates of where you are standing, at the moment you ask. Those coordinates are used to perform the dig and to file the resulting story. Location is never tracked in the background, and the app does not ask for it unless you have pressed dig.

Your journal

Digs you keep are stored against your account so they follow you between devices. You can delete any dig, or your whole account and everything in it, from inside the app.

What this website publishes

The library on this site is assembled from the shared cache of written reports, which is filed by tile rather than by person. It contains no account, no journal and no record of anybody having been anywhere. Published positions are the centre of a tile of roughly 1.2 by 0.6 kilometres, never a precise point, and dates on a page are when it was last reviewed, not when anyone stood there.

Getting help

Write to info@stratahistory.com. A person reads it. If a dig has something wrong in it, tell us which one and what — corrections are published against the dig.

This page is a summary. The Privacy Policy and the Terms of Use are the ones that govern, and they say plainly what is stored, for how long, and who else sees it.

About the writing

Narratives on this site and in the app are composed by AI from cited open sources. They can be incomplete and can misdate an event. Passages marked as era background are general context about a period, not records of a particular piece of ground. Every record on a page carries its publisher and a link, so any claim can be checked at its source.
